Case Study
Lambertson Farms Restoration
North Washington Street & 100th Ave., Thornton, CO
Job Type: Historic preservation
Client: City of Thornton, Colorado
Year: 2013
Customer Needs: The City of Thornton engaged SCS.inc to refurbish 12 buildings on the 100+-year old Lambertson Farm. The farm will one day be the highlight of a planned Lambertson Lakes walking trail.
Key Features: One of the buildings, a large barn, had a failing foundation. The structural engineer’s recommended process involved lifting the entire barn, replacing the foundation and then re-placing the barn on the foundation—risking collapse of the frail structure. The SCS.inc team designed and implemented a complex shoring system that allowed work to be completed while the barn stayed in place. This allowed demolition and replacement of the failing foundation one section at a time, maintaining the structure of the barn without damage, and saving the City of Thornton $50,000 off the approved bid.
